“Jayson Tatum + Marcus Smart + 1st round picks…wouldn’t work” Skip Bayless says it is impossible to replace ‘BEST PLAYER ON PLANET’ Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant still hasn’t found a new destination, even after weeks of requesting a trade away from Brooklyn Nets. However, the team who put KD to utter misery, Boston Celtics looks to grab onto take the opportunity to acquire Durant, after they proposed a package for him. The Package included just Jaylen Brown and some future first-round picks combined with Swap picks. As a result of which Nets denied the spoken off offer. Regarding the latest proceedings, analyst Skip Bayless said he believes “the best player on the planet” is impossible to replace for the Nets.

On the latest edition of “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” the 70-year-old analyst said, “Kevin Durant is going nowhere. You can even do Jayson Tatum + Marcus Smart + Grant Williams and 3 future 1st Round picks, and you still can’t replace The Best Player on the Planet.”

Well, sending a franchise star along with future picks and a host of rotational stars for another franchise player won’t sit well for any team. Young Tatum had already showcased his metal, more this season that the experienced Durant, Antetokounmpo and Butler. While KD is a generational talent, Skip might be hoping too much for him, at the moment.

Still, the Celtics are reported to be favorites to land KD this summer, with the young talent and pick available with them. But they started the deal on a low note including just one All-Star player in the package for 33-year-old Kevin Durant. According to the report, the Celtics offered wing Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and draft compensation. Athletics’ Shams Charania reported that Brooklyn rejected the offer, wanting more draft picks, Marcus Smart, and “another rotation player.”

Do Brooklyn Nets want to trade Kevin Durant this season?

2-time NBA Champion Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets at the start of free agency. And with that, he also handed his preferred destinations – Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns. While both those teams could not make a constructive offer to the Nets, there’s been no shortage of teams interested in acquiring the 4-time scoring champion.

After many talks, the Nets offered KD to the Lakers against their franchise players LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They got rejected. Similarly, Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat rejected the Nets’ offers, which involved a nearly handsome amount of picks with center-pieces of respective franchises. That puts a big question over the Nets’ intentions to trade their prized asset this season.

Last season, Durant averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 51.8%. Despite his talent, injuries restricted his availability for the Black and Whites. Durant will turn 34 in September and has played just 90 of 226 games in the regular season in the past three seasons. Nets would love to utilize most of his talent when he is still “young” and they have assembled a supporting cast around him.

With four years remaining on his contract, Brooklyn has the final say in any deal and might be giving themselves a chance to make use of their 2019 mega signings for 1 last season. 2016 Champion Kyrie Irving is into his last season with the Nets, and the Brooklyn team already has rejected his “extension” plea. New addition Ben Simmons hasn’t touched a ball for the Nets since joining them in 2022.

With Healthy Joe Harris, Ben Simmons, Patty Mills, developing Claxton, and re-signed Set Curry; Brooklyn has a very capable support cast around their Championship experienced pair. So, Skip may be right in this case, and we might see KD playing for the Nets in 2023 at least.
