Los Angeles Lakers planning their moves for 2022-23 season ‘with’ Russell Westbrook as per the latest reports. Publically the Lakers are happy with the situation, but many believe secretly they are trying to move the star guard for a cheaper and more effective player. Westbrook is set to make $47 million next season, making him the second-highest-paid player in league history.
But with his performances not justifying the “price tag”, NBA analyst Skip Bayless believes the former MVP could be the most overpaid player in the history of the league, and the Lakers are stuck with him because of LeBron James. On the same note, 70-year-old analyst Skip Bayless believes that the LA Lakers cannot trade Russell Westbrook because of his massive contract and poor show last season. He also criticized LeBron James for pushing the Lakers to sign Westbrook back in 2021.
Skip Bayless said, “I’m sorry, but Russell Westbrick has become untradable. He’s going to make 44 million dollars because LeBron screwed up. LeBron campaigned, along with Anthony Davis, to bring him aboard. For 44 million and 47, you got to commit to it. I’m sorry Mrs. Westbrook, but your husband has become the single most overpaid player in the history of the NBA.”

The 33-year-old is a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team. Ironically he is one of few players making the precious team without any Championship ring. But he has been among the top performers over the last decade. He is a 2-time scoring champion and even led the league in assists in 3 different seasons.
Looking at his impressive resume, it is assumed that LeBron James rooted for the California Born star. He was traded to the Lakers as a mega-package deal. He signed a huge 5-year contract with Oklahoma City Thunders, which was carried over to the Rockets, Washington Wizards, and now Los Angeles Lakers. But sadly his performances with the LA Lakers have drawn nothing but criticism. Westbrook’s contract means that the Lakers are handcuffed when it comes to bringing in top talent.
Incidentally, Westbrook is the second-highest-paid player in the NBA, ahead of his teammate LeBron James, who was the sole performer for the Lakers at 37. Russell Westbrook earlier managed to rack up triple-doubles on an almost daily basis. The Lakers guard has amassed a record 194 triple-doubles to date. But Skip Bayless feels that triple-doubles are a misleading stat and one of the reasons behind Westbrook’s enormous contract.
Taking a dig at the ‘triple Double’ record Bayless criticizes, “Anybody who carefully watched him last year knows that at 47 million he’s laughably, sadly overpaid. All-time overpaid, as a creation of the most misleading stat in the history of basketball the triple-double,”
4th overall pick in 2008, Westbrook had 3 triple-double seasons with OKC while he managed to replicate the same at Washington Wizards in the 2021 season – tempting the Lakers to make move for him. Westbrook’s teams had an impressive record when he amasses a triple-double but never won Championship. Record 17-time Champions LA Lakers are a very result-oriented franchise, and they will be bidding for their 18th trophy in the 76th edition of the league next season with Westbrook still on their roster.
