“He isn’t defeating Father Time” Skip Bayless slapped LeBron James with brutal Tom Brady’s reality-check
Skip Bayless on LeBron James and Tom Brady comparisons
There are very few players who managed to play at a high level in any sport. LeBron James is certainly one of them, as he is entering his 20th season in the league and is still able to dominate the game at will. This certainly is a very great accomplishment for the King, and many past and current NBA stars have already applauded him for it. But as a long-time critic of the NBA superstar, Skip Bayless has seemingly made it his personal mission to discredit “the King’s” accomplishments as much as he can. This week, in an episode of his podcast, the FOX Sports analyst laid into LeBron again, comparing his longevity to that of NFL legend Tom Brady.
On The Skip Bayless Show this week, he dropped a fresh-out-of-the-oven hot take after a viewer posed the question: “Is LeBron beating Father Time just like you think Tom Brady is?” Bayless’ response was, as many would have expected, very “Bayless-ish”. He said, “The answer to that is a big NO. I will give you that LeBron James had the greatest year 19 last season of any NBA player ever, but that’s in large part because not many have lasted as long as LeBron has.”
Tom Brady is nearly 45 and will be playing his 23rd season in NFL. In comparison, LeBron is 37 and entering his 20th season in NBA.
Skip Bayless ranks LeBron James second, this time comparing him to NFL’s Tom Brady
The topic of GOA is very subjective and Skip had always put Michael Jordan ahead of LeBron James in that comparison. Even if he gave LBJ an edge in assist making, he defends MJ in the comparison. While the questioning fan was very much particular about comparisons between LeBron James and Tom Brady, Skip showed no mercy thrashing 4-time NBA Champion LeBron.
He said, “Is LeBron defeating Father Time just like you think Tom Brady is? The answer to that is a big n-o. He had the greatest year 19 of any NBA player ever, but that’s in large part because not many have lasted or wanted to last as long as LeBron has.”
While giving credit to the hard work LBJ put into his fitness, Skip added, “I admire his fitness dedication. I admire his commitment to nutrition and warrior workouts. And yet, remember, LeBron is seven years and five months younger than Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.”
Comparing the latest performances by both the athletes, Skip showcased LeBron’s flaws, and explains why he considered that he won’t be beating Tom Brady’s, Father Time. He said, “LeBron’s all-time greatest year 19 was, statistically, deeply flawed… crucial chinks were exposed that Brady had none of last season as he was 44 years old. LeBron last season ranked 15th in the NBA in three-point attempts, he finished 93rd in three-point shooting by percentage. That’s way too many three-point misses, that’s team-crushing.”
Statistically speaking Skip had some valid points. If viewers can compare LBJ’s some of the previous seasons; it’s a fact that LeBron isn’t as fast or as strong as he used to be. He’s not nearly as durable either, with just 101 games played over the last two seasons, due to injuries.
Still, no one can deny James’ impact on the court. While he has been forced to make major adjustments to his game, LeBron is still finding ways to be effective on the court. It may not be quite in Tom Brady’s territory yet, but he can get there if he really wants to. And to be fair, comparing athletes from two different sports can’t be seen as an Apple-to-Apple comparison.
While there was a handful of players in the NBA making hot runs at the age of 35+ and for the 20-around seasons, LeBron must be given the credit he deserves. And at the same time, you can always rely on Skip Bayless to come out with the best ways to bring down LeBron James and his legacy.
