“Quiet performance by his recent standards” Skip Bayless takes dig at LeBron James’ performance despite King’s historic triple-double

Skip Bayless and LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the New York Knicks in overtime, 129-123, Tuesday. LeBron James led all Lakers scorers with 28 points, including a number of clutch baskets to help solidify the win. Any rational basketball fan who watched this game came away thinking to themselves how amazing James is, especially considering he has been doing this for two decades. However, there is one person, who ceases to be impressed, no matter how great of a show the 4 x NBA champion puts on, i.e. Skip Bayless

Bayless is known for being a harsh critic of the Lakers superstar. Despite the Lakers star’s incredible performance, he did manage to find something to criticize Bron. “I really thought LeBron would have more of a show-stopping game tonight in this season’s lone visit to the Mecca of Basketball. All in all, a pretty quiet performance by his recent standards,” he wrote on Twitter. Moreover, he praised Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schroder for the overtime win. “But hey, thanks to Russ and Schroder in overtime, the Lakers did win,” Bayless added.

LeBron James didn’t just lead his team in scoring, he dropped a triple-double. He finished with 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. He became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double in the 20th NBA season. The 19 x NBA All-Star was out against the Brooklyn Nets with a left foot injury. Despite losing the first two games of their road trip, the Lakers still managed to get 27 points and nine boards from Anthony Davis. For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson poured in 37 points, while Julius Randle added 23 points and 12 boards.

But James showed once again on Tuesday that there is more to basketball than scoring. With 3:13 remaining, he assisted Dennis Schroder on a 3-pointer that broke a 118-all tie. Later in the extra time, he pulled down 10 rebounds and then drove to the hoop for a 127-121 advantage with 19 seconds left. During his first game in three years at Madison Square Garden, he passed Mark Jackson and Steve Nash to move into fourth place on the all-time assists record.
