The Los Angeles Lakers endured a horrendous start to the season. After their 2-10 start, few envisioned them earning a playoff spot when. But things changed quickly after the team acquired Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley before the trade deadline. They finished with the second-best record in the league post the All-Star and earned a playoff spot via the Play-In tournament.

Their journey in the playoffs began with a 128-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1, and with Ja Morant likely out, they’ll fancy themselves to head back to LA with a 2-0 lead. Four Lakers finished the game with 20+ points in the game. Hachimura came off the bench, scoring 29 points and grabbing six boards, leading the team in scoring, while young star, Austin Reeves put up 23 points in his playoff debut. Lakers fans were thrilled by the win, even one of their most famous ones.

Hyped up after the Game 1 performance, Snoop Dogg went on to Instagram to share his words about the team’s diversity. “United Nations over here. We got Asians, white boys, n****s, boy we cold. The Lakers got a cold squad baby,” said Snoop in a TikTok video. The ‘Asian’ and ‘white boy’ comments were for Hachimura, who is Japanese, and Reaves, respectively.

It was a dazzling performance by the Lakers, but it would be interesting to see if they can keep this pace throughout the series. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way, things are looking promising for the Lakers fans. On the other hand, Memphis didn’t have that bad of a game after all, but they couldn’t stand the scoring storm by the purple and gold squad.

With Game 1 out of the way, it would take some serious effort and work for the Lakers to hold off the Grizzlies, knowing their potential. In Ja Morant’s absence, Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, Luke Kennard, and Dillon Brooks would need to step up to deny the Lakers a 2-0 lead.

The odds are already stacked against Memphis. The Lakers’ win over the Grizzlies was the 30th Game 1 victory of LeBron James’ career. His teams hold an unfathomable 27-2 record in those series. History suggests the Lakers have a 90% chance of heading to the second round, but the Grizzlies will believe that they are among the 10%.
