Spencer Dinwiddie
Spencer Dinwiddie was ejected from the game between Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors. He was called for a flagrant 2 in the fourth quarter of the game. The game between Dallas and Golden State was one of the best games so far this season. The two teams met for the first time since their playoffs last season. Dallas perhaps came for their revenge and also to break their 4 game-losing streak.
Mavs had 17 points lead in the first quarter of the game, but as the game got near to 48 minutes mark, the leads were cut and exchanged many times between the two teams. Early in the 4th quarter with 10.52 remaining on the clock Dallas was leading the game 94-91. Dinwiddie tried to break the Warriors’ defense but hit Jordan Poole’s face with his elbow.
As Poole fell directly on the court holding his face, the officials called a foul on Dinwiddie. However, they wanted to see if it was a flagrant foul from him. After reviewing the play, the officials declared it a flagrant-2 foul, consequently throwing him out of the game.
Covering the game were Candice Parker and Stan Van Gundy who also were open with their opinion about the foul before the call was made by the officials. Gundy made it clear that it was above the shoulders but not sure if it was the arm or elbow. However, both Parker and Gundy anticipated that it would change into flagrant 2.
Dallas won the game 113-116 with Luka Doncic’s 40+ points triple-double. Leading the Warriors Stephen Curry scored 32 points but had a rough shooting night as he made only 5 of 14 three-point shots and 11 of 24 shots from the field. On a historical night, Luka had his name written beside Oscar Robertson.
