The Golden State Warriors have pulled off a blockbuster trade to land Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards, sending Jordan Poole and several draft picks to the nation’s capital. The move unites Paul with Steph Curry and adds another All-Star to the Warriors’ backcourt alongside Klay Thompson.
Curry and Thompson have finally opened up about the trade, and they both shared their excitement and respect for their new teammate. They also admitted that it will be weird to play with someone who used to be their enemy and that they will have to adjust to his style of play.
Curry and Thompson spoke exclusively to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, where they revealed their thoughts on the Chris Paul trade. They both complimented Paul’s leadership, playmaking, and competitiveness and said that he will help them chase another championship.
“It’s an honor to play with a player who is one of the best of your generation,” Thompson said. “It’s a little weird because we’ve had so many battles in the past with Chris, and he’s led so many teams that nearly knocked us off or did knock us off all the way back in 2014. I think he’s just going to add such a calming presence and leadership component that we need.“

Curry, Thompson welcome Chris Paul to Warriors, admit it’s ‘hard to see Poole go’
Curry echoed Thompson’s sentiments and said that Paul will make every team he plays on better. He also said that he has a great relationship with Paul, despite their on-court rivalry.
“Every team that CP has been on gets better. That’s the most consistent thing about him, and who he is and what he brings to the team,” Curry said. “Everybody’s going to talk about the age. It’s on us to put that all together and figure out how all the pieces work.”
Curry also admitted that it was hard to see Poole go, as he had developed a friendship and a bond with him over the past three seasons. He said that Poole has a great opportunity in Washington and wished him well.
Chris Paul will have to adapt to playing on a team that already has two elite scorers and shooters in Curry and Thompson, who are also used to having the ball in their hands. However, he is determined to help the Warriors win another championship, as he is still chasing his first ring after coming close with the Suns last season. He said that he is excited to join a team with such high standards and expectations.
