Draymond Green has a big decision to make this summer. The four-time NBA champion and three-time All-Star opted out of his $27.5 million player option with the Golden State Warriors for the 2023-24 season, making him an unrestricted free agent. But how much is he worth in today’s NBA market? And where should he sign his next contract?

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith made a strong case for Green’s value on his show First Take. Smith compared Green’s situation to that of Karl-Anthony Towns, who inked a four-year, $224 million supermax extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He argued that Towns, despite being a talented and versatile big man, has not accomplished anything meaningful in the league, while Green has been a key factor in the Warriors’ dynasty.

$100-$120M in today’s NBA economy, with KAT signing for $250M and they ain’t win a damn thing? I don’t want to hear that Draymond Green ain’t worth that money. You’re damn right he’s worth that money,” Smith said.

Green has been a vital part of the Warriors’ success over the past decade, helping them win four titles alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. He is widely regarded as one of the best defenders and playmakers in the league, as well as a vocal leader and a fiery competitor.

Despite some rumors and speculation about Draymond Green’s future in the NBA, it seems likely that he will stay with the Warriors and sign a new deal with them. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, both sides are interested in getting a deal done and there is no animosity or tension between them.

Opting out was just for procedure,” Wojnarowski said. “It made sense to do that financially and now go back and negotiate a new deal with the Warriors. These are two sides that very much want to get a deal done. Draymond and Rich Paul are not posturing and threatening to go elsewhere, even though there are great options out there for them…

Green has been loyal to the Warriors since they drafted him in 2012 as a second-round pick. He has developed into an All-Star, a Defensive Player of the Year and a leader for the team. He has also formed a strong bond with Curry and Thompson, who are also expected to stay with the Warriors for the long term.

Green may not be worth $250 million like Towns, but he is certainly worth more than $27.5 million. He deserves to get paid for his contributions to the Warriors and his impact on the game. And many want him to do it with the team that gave him a chance and made him a champion.
