“Don’t think you’re that damn smart” Stephen A. Smith puts all blame on LeBron James as the lakers go down 0-3
LeBron James Russell Westbrook and Stephen Smith
LeBron James was once again under media scrutiny as Stephen A. Smith continued to fire salvos at the 4-time NBA champion for the current situation of the Lakers involving Russell Westbrook. Following yet another defeat to begin the season, the Los Angeles Lakers, particularly Russell Westbrook, have come under growing scrutiny from the media. According to Stephen A. Smith on an October 24 broadcast of ESPN’s First Take, the King is somewhat to blame for the media’s obsession with the troubled guard to begin the season.
In his scathing attacks, this is what Stephen A Smith had to say to LeBron James, “To my brother, LeBron James. My brother, you are a brilliant brother, brilliant basketball player, brilliant mind…But don’t think you’re that damn smart, that you get to navigate this…talking about the media set you up to get at Russell Westbrook, Nah my brother, you did that.“
He further said, “Opening night, when you said ‘we’re not a team of shooters,’ you know good and well whom everybody was going to look at. And you said it anyway. You’ve gotta own that, my brother. You’ve gotta own that. You cannot want to talk about Westbrook for the rest of the year, we’re all going to remember what you said on opening night, it’s just that simple.”
LeBron James speaks on the Russell Westbrook situation
On Sunday, with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Lakers leading the Trail Blazers by one point, Russell Westbrook attempted an open midrange jump shot in the hopes of giving his team an additional opportunity but he missed the attempt, and Portland’s Damian Lillard went on to hit the game-winning three-pointer, dropping Los Angeles to 0-3 on the season.
After the game, LeBron James was asked about his mindset on going for a two-for-one possession in such circumstances, and he looked annoyed by Westbrook’s decision. However, he said that reporters were attempting to set him up to trash his teammate. James was very careful in answering questions from the reporters.
James stated that he despises losing in any form and praised the Blazers, but he plainly felt he was being forced to critique Westbrook. He said he does not find the need to speak against Brodie. The Lakers have a lot more work to put into this season especially to prove James’ point that he made when they signed the 9x All-Star point guard.
