There are no two ways in stating that James Harden was a force to reckon with in his Houston Rockets days. However, his stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers have not been able as successful as the Beard would like. Not only has the former MVP not been able to establish himself as an elite scorer but his numbers have drastically declined as well.

The same was spotted by sports media personality Stephen A. Smith who was discussing and opinionating upon the Philadelphia 76ers potential to make it into the conference finals and probably beyond. On one hand James Harden has been able to average 22 points and 10 assist per game in the 2021-22 season, which are quite decent but surely are nowhere near the standard he has set for himself in the past.

Smith stated, “James Harden looks done, and I don’t need Jalen Rose’s glasses to tell me that. Let’s just get it out of the way right now. And what I mean by done, he’s not a scrub, he can still play, he can average over 20 and eight for you. That’s not what I mean when I say he’s done. I’m talking about the James Harden we saw in Houston, that brother is no more.”

The 2018 NBA MVP has been below par but the same cannot be said for his teammate Joel Embiid, who is looking all set to fetch his first prestigious individual accolade in the league. Fighting alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic in the MVP race, this center has been able to stamp his authority on the scoring end since the beginning of the 2021-22 season and has emerged as the scoring leader.

Given that the 76ers are first-and-foremost looking to put away Toronto Raptors in their home court, after which Harden would be required to change his gear if the 76ers are willing to make a deep run in these playoffs. Will there be a change in the approach of Harden in the coming days? Remains to be seen.
