Ja Morant

Ja Morant has been suspended from the league for the next two games following an Instagram live where he is seen showing off his gun. Stephen A. Smith said on ESPN, “You got a deal that kicks in next year that could exceed 231 million dollars over the next 5 years. On this show, on national television, there’s you associated with the police. Think about that for a second and ask yourself is it really worth it?”

Ja Morant issued a statement saying he takes full responsibility for his actions and is taking time away to get help. He has since gone on to delete all of his social media during this period. “I want to preface my comments by saying I’m really proud of Ja’s statement, ” said Stephen A. Smith. Smith said that everyone talking about him or to him just wants what is best for him. Stephen A. compared Ja’s antics to Allen Iverson in the early 2000s.

Ja being caught on video doing what he did makes it impossible for him to deny anything and he has owned up to it. “Tee Morant…nothing but love, but you are his DADDY, not his friend. You can be his friend, but you are also his father,” said Smith about Ja’s father needing to educate him about what he is doing wrong. Tee Morant has been a staple at many of Ja’s games and is vocal about his son’s success. Stephen A. just wants Ja to get the right guidance from the right people and it needs to start with his father.

Ja Morant’s suspension is just one of the problems that the Memphis Grizzlies are going through right now. The Grizzlies will be missing Brandon Clarke for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles. Dillion Brooks is out for their next game after picking up his 16th technical foul of the season. The Grizzlies are the #2 seed but Sacramento is just 1.5 games behind them in a tight conference.

Ja Morant will miss both the Grizzly’s games against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers and could miss more games. The investigation into Ja’s assault on the 17-year-old is ongoing and he could face charges. If Ja does have to sit out an extended period, the Grizzlies are in trouble. The Grizzlies are 4-5 without Ja this season and their next 5 games are against the Western Conference.

If the Grizzlies end up losing to the teams below them in the conference, they could be in for a rough end to the season. Even with a sizeable gap of 4 games between themselves and the 4th seed Phoenix Suns, things could go south very quickly with one losing streak. Memphis hopes that Ja comes back as soon as possible to finish what has been an impressive season so far.
