Chris Paul seems to have gotten under the skin of Stephen A. Smith lately

About a couple of weeks ago, former (soon-to-be) Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul made an appearance on The Pivot Podcast and shed light on multiple topics surrounding his life that included his family, his legacy, and his teammates, among many other things. One of the things he spoke about that caught the eye of the public was how his daughter was bullied at school because Paul hasn’t won any championships yet.

Commenting on the incident, Paul said, “She had a little boy at school that said some reckless stuff to her. He was like, ‘Your daddy ain’t never gonna win no championship.'” Paul’s daughter was upset and called her father to tell her about what transpired at school to which he told her that ‘some people talk and some people do.’

While Paul may have genuinely expressed what he felt about the bullying, one person that wasn’t buying his story was none other than NBA Analyst for ESPN, Stephen A. Smith. Although Smith has known Paul closely for years and has a lot of love for him and his family, he believes that Paul is playing the victim which has annoyed him greatly.

” When people talk about Chris Paul, they talk about one of the greatest point guards to have ever played this game, they talk about a floor general, a consummate leader, an individual who is a role model on and off the court,” said Smith, implying that people only have good things to say about Paul and are rooting for him to win a championship as that is the only thing missing from his decorated hall of fame career.

What’s next for Chris Paul?

Paul, along with Landry Shamet and a handful of second-round picks, and multiple pick swaps were recently traded to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Bradley Beal. This essentially meant that Paul’s tenure with the Phoenix Suns came to a disappointing end and for good.

Paul, however, should be credited for turning things around in Phoenix and building a winning culture along with superstar shooting guard Devin Booker. This should come as no surprise as Paul has always made the teams he has played with better be it the then New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It looks highly unlikely that Paul will suit up for the Wizards next season. He would want to play with a contender at this stage in his career considering he has seen a major dip in production and retirement is fast approaching. The rumours have already started floating around with Paul being linked to the Lakers, Rockets, Clippers and Warriors. The only thing truly missing from what would be the icing on the cake is a championship and Paul would be desperate to win one before he calls time on a historic career.
