The New York Knicks are now on the verge of elimination as the Miami Heat have taken a 3-1 series lead. The Heat took Game 4, 109-101, led by none other than one of the best performers of this postseason, Jimmy Butler. The Knicks, on the other hand, had Jalen Brunson contribute the most in Game 4, just like the previous games. Following the loss, the Heat’s chances of getting to the Conference Finals as an eighth seed have increased immensely. As the Knicks got in the 3-1 hole, Julius Randle seems to be the one thrown under the bus.

Randle, known for his durability, has been underperforming this postseason. The 28-year-old had averaged 25 points and ten assists in the regular season. Though coming into the postseason, his numbers have seen a drastic downfall. This playoffs, Randle has averaged 16 points and eight rebounds, which is well below his full potential.

Randle is one of the most active players on the NY Knicks roster, having played 77 games. He had missed the last five games of the regular season due to an injury. He looked to be pretty consistent heading into the playoffs, though instead came out to be a disappointment to the fans. Randle’s efficiency has also been subpar, with a 23% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

Renowned analyst Stephen A. Smith appears to have lost trust in Randle and wants him dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Karl Anthony Towns, the frontman of the Wolves, lands as Stephen A’s target for this trade. “I think they should trade him… Now durability I don’t think anybody can compete with Julius Randle. He’s been mister reliable. Played the first 77 games of this season before he got injured… But I’m talking about from a talent perspective, particularly come playoff time, I’d rather have Karl-Anthony Towns than Julius Randle.”, said Stephen A. While Stephen A. wishes for quite a lot, fans on Twitter felt a valid point coming from him.

The Knicks just cannot pay Karl Anthony Towns, as they will be well over their luxury tax. To make this trade happen, the Knicks might have to throw in some reliable assets that would include Obi Toppin or Immanuel Quickley. Julius Randle hasn’t been the best performer for the Knicks, as his usual contribution to the team might have had the Knicks in a different position. Seeing this, fans on Twitter stormed and gave a mixed bag of reactions.

Randle had led the Knicks to the 2021 postseason. His potential hasn’t dropped, but it seems that he might be going through an underperforming run while in the middle of the playoffs. Being a reliable scorer of the Knicks, Randle will have to step it up if he wants his team out of three 3-1 hole. It will be interesting to see whether the Knicks can extend the series as they head home for Game 5.
