Steve Kerr has seen it all throughout his coaching career with the Golden State Warriors. The illustrious coach has led a very successful spell for the Warriors. However, he has also seen its downsides. Recently, he talked about his superstar Steph Curry and the Warriors’ struggles.
Speaking with NBCS Warriors, Kerr was asked about the recent struggles from superstar Steph Curry. Kerr was very honest when he said:
We've thrown a ton on his shoulders. The burden that Steph Curry has on him for this franchise is unfair.Steve Kerr via Steph Curry
Kerr added that Curry and Draymond Green have been the de facto leaders of the Warriors team for the past decade. So, without Green on the court, the burden has greatly fallen on Curry.
Add to the lack of leadership, Curry was tasked with the burden of leading the Warriors’ offense. Despite being their defensive stalwart, Green remains an integral part of their offensive game plan. Without him on the court, the Warriors must send everything through Curry.
Kerr also mentioned the burden on Curry has led to fatigue. Despite having a few young pieces to help, it was enough for the Warriors and Curry. Curry is best when he plays off the ball, as per Kerr.
Stephen Curry and this Warriors season have had too much
The goal for the season was to fight for another NBA Championship. At least, that was the intention. But the Warriors’ record stands 17-19 and ranked 12th in the extremely competitive Western Conference. With the regular season approaching the halfway point, time is not on their side.
Injuries, disappointing play from key players, and especially the Draymond Green suspensions have severely impacted the Warriors. Now that Green is scheduled to return, the Warriors must alleviate some of that pressure on Curry and let the team play the way it has always known to do.
Hopefully, Curry and the Warriors can turn their season around. Getting to the Play-In spots is not enough if the Championship is their target. They need some rest, especially Curry.
