“Bruh, trade this man” – Suns fans ‘DONE’ with DeAndre Ayton after bizarre response to questions about viral play
The Phoenix Suns trail 2-0 against the Denver Nuggets in their Western Conference semifinals series. The Nuggets have continued where they left off in the first round against the Minnesota Timberwolves and have improved to 6-1 in the 2023 playoffs. They won both games at their home court, as the team will now look to seize complete control of the series with a win in Phoenix in Game 3. The former MVP, Nikola Jokic, and star guard, Jamal Murray have been great throughout the series.
On the flip side, the Suns’ stars, especially center DeAndre Ayton, haven’t been playing their best basketball. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have been active on the offensive end, but Ayton, the team’s rim protector, has seen his numbers as well as performance dip significantly against the Nuggets.
Durant and Booker have carried the team on offense, combining for 57 points a game. Both the players have been pretty solid when it comes to rebounding too. Durant has averaged 11 rebounds so far to Booker’s seven in this series. However, Ayton is averaging only 16 points and 10 rebounds in the postseason. His performance against the Nuggets has been seemingly lower than his usual numbers. Suns fans on Twitter have been critical of the center’s performance. One clip, in particular, reflects poorly on Ayton:
This clip of Ayton not contesting a rebound while Jokic grabbed two offensive boards had fans fuming on Twitter.
DeAndre Ayton gets criticized on Twitter
Ayton defended himself after being shown the clip during a press conference, saying, “I don’t know what you want me to do there.” The 24-year-old has been a great asset to the Suns ever since his rookie year. Ayton has delivered for the team when it mattered the most and is also one of the best rebounders in the league. Though his current performance in the second round hasn’t been up to the mark. Fans did not leave the chance to point out his poor effort during this play and in the series:
With Games 3 and 4 scheduled in Phoenix, the Suns cannot afford another loss. No team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit in the playoffs. The Suns will need their stars to step up and deliver on Friday night if they intend to keep their playoff hopes alive.
