“They wanna use you as a scapegoat to fix something” Stephen Jackson slams ESPN for portraying Rachel Nichols as a racist
Stephen Jackson and Rachel Nichols
Stephen Jackson recently made the NBA headlines as he showed out his support for Rachel Nichols while slamming ESPN for spying on her and leaking the audio tape of her call recording. Rachel Nichols was a fan favorite analyst and host for good four-five years and even topped the charts most of the time. She also had her very own show “The Jump” but it all disappeared as soon as the call recording was leaked.
Rachel Nichols in her call with LeBron James’ advisor, Adam Mendelsohn revealed how she was supposed to be covering NBA Finals from the sidelines and was snubbed from that role by ESPN due to lacking diversity. Maria Taylor and Malika Andrews covered the NBA Finals instead of Rachel Nichols by replacing her, whose downfall started on that particular day. As after the audio call recording got leaked, she lost her show and was dropped from all programming on ESPN.
The way ESPN treated her and showed her the way-out portrayed Rachel Nichols as a racist. But now as things keep revealing we know that’s not something she is. Moreover, ESPN was very wrong for spying on her and leaking the audio recording. Even Stephen Jackson has suggested the same on his and Matt Barnes’ podcast, “All the Smoke”
Rachel Nichols didn’t really do anything wrong and still regrets how all of it impacted Maria Taylor. She also sounded mad on the podcast regarding how the tape was used later when people started having bad feelings for her. As she extended her contract and got a raise while fixing things with her fellow women in the business.
Stephen Jackson’s take on ESPN regarding the Rachel Nichols’ situation
Stephen Jackson discussing the Rachel Nichols’ situation sitting alongside her and Matt Barnes quoted: “Imagine working somewhere for 25 years, and they wanna use you as a scapegoat to fix something that they be f*ckin up for years, it don’t work like that.”
Further, Stephen Jackson added: “That’s not fair to nobody and no race and that’s how I took it, it just isn’t right. That’s why I didn’t mind jumping up and standing up for you because I love you (Rachel Nichols) and I know you. People just gotta put yourselves in somebody else’s shoes sometimes before you judge…”
Nothing about it can be changed right now but we have Rachel Nichols back in the business. As recently she signed a deal with Showtime and the fans are set to enjoy her takes on the basketball world once again.
