“This is Kyrie’s team now” – Luka Doncic relegated to sidekick role in Dallas, claims Skip Bayless

The Dallas Mavericks picked up a crucial win thanks to Kyrie Irving and Skip Bayless feels he is more important than Luka Doncic at the moment

“This is Kyrie’s team now” – Luka Doncic relegated to sidekick role in Dallas, claims Skip Bayless

Kyrie Irving

Skip Bayless has boldly claimed Kyrie Irving is the leader of the Dallas Mavericks following their comeback win against the Sacramento Kings. “Kyrie was unbelievable again in yet another 4th quarter – 19 points as Mavs battle back to win a must-win at home over back-to-back Sac,” said Bayless on Twitter. Kyrie scored 19 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter to lead Dallas to victory.

With Luka, he has shot twice as many 4th-q shots. This is now Kyrie’s Team. Luka: sidekick,” continued Bayless in his tweet. Luka Doncic had an average shooting night by his standards as he shot 3/11 from three and let Kyrie Irving take over in the fourth quarter, as KAI scored 12 points in the first 6 minutes. Doncic scored zero points in the fourth quarter and attempted just two shots.

The Dallas Mavericks have struggled with Luka and Kyrie as a duo, but in the few games Kyrie has played without Luka, the Mavs have gone 3-1. Kyrie also averaged the most fourth-quarter points in the NBA this season and showed everyone last night why he is so valuable. Despite Skip Bayless saying it is Kyrie’s team, all reports suggest Irving is looking to part ways with Dallas if they miss the playoffs.

80 games down and the 2022 Western Conference Finalists find themselves in the 11th seed in what has been a shocking season. Luka Doncic and the Mavs have found themselves amongst the top eight seeds and were the sixth seed right at the trade deadline. Ever since Kyrie Irving joined it has been a disastrous time in Texas for fans.

However, after last night’s win, the Mavs have the same record as the Oklahoma City Thunder and could sneak into the previous play-in spot. OKC is on a three-game losing streak and could lose out on the last site. However, the Maverick’s next two games are against the #3 and #1 seed in the Western Conference. After a back-to-back against the Kings, the Mavs face the top-seeded Nuggets to decide their playoff fate.

If Dallas does manage to sneak into the 10th seed, they will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the play-ins as it stands. The Timberwolves have a 2-1 record against Dallas this season and could provide an early upset in this year’s postseason. Luka will hope he and Kyrie can click into another gear now to propel the Mavericks into the playoffs.
