Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards under NBA review over insensitive homophobic remarks

Anthony Edwards
Minnesota Timberwolves have expressed their displeasure with Anthony Edwards after the NBA player uploaded a homophobic video on Instagram. Last week, the guard resorted to social media to share a video from his cruiser in which he zooms in on a group of shirtless males on the sidewalk. To make matters worse The NBA may discipline Minnesota Timberwolves player Anthony Edwards for his recent statements that appear to disparage the LGBTQ community.

While he later erased the video, his fans saved it and published it on social media. He has since issued an apology on the same on twitter saying “What I said was immature, hurtful, and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry,” he wrote. “It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that!”
Fans’ reaction to Anthony Edwards’ remarks

Without a question, Anthony Edwards is a budding NBA star. He was the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ first-round pick in 2020, and he averaged more over 25 points per game in the playoffs last season. Edwards even lent his star power to a LeBron James film, Hustle, playing the trash-talking basketball player Kermit Wilts.
While everything appeared to be going well for the budding star, the Timberwolves guard found himself in hot water following a recent post. Edwards shared a contentious video on social media in which he was heard using insulting comments in reference to a random group of males. Even his franchise, the Timberwolves reprimanded the 21yr old star for his comments. While some people were offended by the comments, supporters showed no compassion in responding to the initial post and the apologies.
The Timberwolves has since apologised for the offence Edwards’ actions caused, stating that the team is dedicated to diversity. We are disappointed with Anthony Edwards’ social media language and conduct,’ the team stated in a statement posted Monday, credited to team president Tim Connelly. ‘The Timberwolves are dedicated to being an open and welcoming organisation for all, and we regret for offending so many people. ‘If Edwards is found guilty, his punishment will be similar to Kevin Durant’s $50,000 fine for his disgusting, homophobic, and sexist outburst last year.
