Trae Young’s dad calls out media for purposely ‘black listing’ son out of Atlanta Hawks

Trae Young has quickly established himself as one of the top players in his position in the NBA after only a few seasons there. Young, a point guard, has a terrific understanding of scoring and can locate teammates for outstanding assists when needed. Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks have had trouble making the postseason despite consistently posting high totals.

Ray Young, Trae Young’s father, expressed his anger at commentator Kevin O’Connor for implying that no one would want the latter in a trade. According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, if the Atlanta Hawks’ squad does not advance to the playoffs, rival executives feel the guard could be the next top player to request a transfer.

In response to such speculations, O’Connor called Trae out for being a defensive liability and failing to adapt to an off-the-ball role with a new colleague and superb facilitator Dejounte Murray. Here’s what Kevin said, “Trae Young is an elite playmaker but has shown no willingness to excel off-ball next to another shot-creator in Dejounte Murray. And he’s a small defender that gets targeted by offenses. A ton of teams already have good PGs. A genuine question: Which teams would really want Trae?”

Trae’s father didn’t let Kevin’s comments slide in. And, defending his son, Ray humbly called out Connor. As in a tweet of his he wrote: “This is what sucks about pro ball these days. Although I like Kevin’s stuff, now there’ll be articles on Trae like this…just because ‘rival execs’ believe something! Trae doesn’t talk to other teams. He’s busy trying to win in Atlanta. Will this ever end?”

The Atlanta Hawks‘ resurgence as consistent playoff challengers was greatly aided by Trae Young. Two seasons ago, he guided the group to an amazing run to the Conference Finals. Last year, however, the Hawks lost against the Miami Heat in the opening round.

Dejounte Murray, who Young reportedly wanted to play with, was acquired because they needed another All-Star type player. The Hawks are eighth in the Eastern Conference with a .500 record after 32 games of the season.

Atlanta doesn’t have the same team synergy they did in the 2021 playoffs. However, there will undoubtedly be some early conflict when two All-Stars play together for the first time. With Young and Murray, it might be the case. They are two of the best playmaking guards in the game and both have excellent ball skills.

That being said they must strike the ideal balance between controlling play with the ball in hand. They are incredibly demanding of defensive attention as individual players. Things can surely work well at Atlanta if the front office and the stars of the team build some good chemistry going ahead.
