The Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up for a deep playoff run, it seems, given their recent additions to the squad. The men in purple and gold recently signed free-agent Tristan Thompson for the play-in tournament and, hopefully, for the playoffs as well. As the big man takes his services to LA, he’ll bring that veteran leadership to a squad that has high post-season aspirations.

Thompson spent last season with the Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, and Chicago Bulls. The big man averaged six points on 52.8% shooting and 5.1 rebounds in 57 games. He did not play this season, though, as he remained unsigned in free agency. He made a handful of cameo appearances on ESPN’s NBA Today, maybe keeping his future prospects of becoming a player-turned-analyst afloat. Nonetheless, the veteran big man continued to work out with the hopes of returning to the NBA floor.

As “Double T” signed with the Lakers, he is reunited with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James. The Lakers’ new center has solid playoff experience while playing alongside James. He has played in 88 postseason games in his career, including four consecutive Finals appearances alongside The King and the Cavaliers from 2015 to 2018.

He was an integral part of the Cavaliers’ 2016 championship squad. He averaged 10.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, and one block per game as they rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers’ frontcourt needed some depth heading into the playoffs. While Anthony Davis is at peak of his powers and all set to dazzle the fans, Thompson can offer a much-needed lift from the bench. Although the Lakers also have big young man Mo Bamba on their roster, Thompson is a seasoned veteran and might be slotted ahead of the 24-year-old in the Lakers’ rotation.

Tristan Thompson finally got a second chance after working out and staying NBA-ready. However, the big man hasn’t played in a while, so his conditioning is in doubt. Nonetheless, he’ll hope to assist the Lakers in any way he can and shake off that rust as soon as possible. If Thompson steps on the floor, the Lakers will be hoping for toughness, rebounding, and veteran savvy.

While many Lakers fans are ecstatic seeing their team making moves before the postseason tips off, many fans riddled social media with all kinds of jokes. Others joked about his old flame, Khloe Kardashian, and whether she’d turn up to Lakers games. At the same time, some fans mentioned how Thompson’s persistent flattery of LeBron James this season finally paid off.

The Lakers are all set for the play-in tournament and will lock horns with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers lost the season series to the Timberwolves, including a frustrating loss on March 3. However, the men in purple and gold were without James. But with a healthy roster and with the Wolves seemingly crumbling, things might work out in the favor of the Lakers.
