Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals was a rough outing for the Golden State Warriors. As the defending champions played, the Los Angeles Lakers played at home, they were dominated throughout the entire game. As the Lakers took a 2-1 series lead, the Warriors will go back with a lot to reassess. For starters, Golden State struggled with containing Anthony Davis and his scoring abilities. Moreover, the younger guns, like Jordan Poole, Moses Moody, and JaMychal Green, failed to fire and create an impact.
The Lakers responded to their 27-point Game 2 defeat by thwarting the Warriors with a 30-point margin. Anthony Davis was yet again the best player for LA on the floor with 25 points and 13 rebounds. LeBron James too had a decent game with 23 points. The defending champions, on the other hand, had a tough scoring game. Stephen Curry had a modest 23-point game while Klay Thompson managed 15 points for his name. The score at the end of regulation was 97-127.
Out of the many concerns for Golden State, their fouling tendency is going to be on top of the list. In the second quarter of the Game, Moses Moody cut to the basket to score. Anthony Davis came up with an impressive block, after which Moody fell on the floor while the Lakers took the ball in transition. Moody then grabbed and tripped Davis by the leg in what was initially called a take foul. After reviewing the play, Moody was issued with a level one flagrant foul.
NBA Twitter reacts to Moses Moody’s flagrant foul
After the flagrant foul by Moses Moody, fans on social media were seen condemning the Warriors for their gameplay. After all, after the Draymond Green-Domantas Sabonis controversy in round 1, the Warriors are already treading on rough waters with the fouling strategies. Moreover, fans were seen blaming Green more than Moody for the flagrant foul on Anthony Davis.
Although Green had nothing to do with it, many are claiming that he, as a leader, is promoting foul play for the younger Golden State players. While some pin the blame on the Warriors veteran, some are calling the Warriors Dark Magic.
Although the series is currently in the Lakers’ favor at 2-1, Golden State has a chance to level it in Game 4. However, one of their key problems has been defending the Los Angeles Center. Anthony Davis is an absolute beast in the paint and the Warriors need to come up with a game plan to shake him off his rhythm.
On the other hand, players like Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson have been pretty inconsistent with their scoring throughout the playoffs. If Stephen Curry and Co want to advance to the Conference Finals, they have a mighty task to contain the Lakers at home in Game 4 and make the series 2-2. Nevertheless, the series is shaping up to be as exciting as anticipated.
