“Dude’s deada** looks like Dennis Rodman” – NBA Twitter reacts to Spurs star Jeremy Sochan’s hairdo

Jeremy Sochan and Dennis Rodman

San Antonio Spurs rookie Jeremy Sochan has turned a few heads for his unusual style since entering the NBA. The latest incidence of this is after the clip of him shooting a one-handed free-throw emerged during the Spurs’ 125-104 victory in Houston over the Rockets.

The rookie drew comparisons to NBA legend Dennis Rodman for the unusual free throw form and more notably, the unusual hairstyle. Rodman was an enigma during his NBA career. Known more for his off the court antics such as disappearing to party for 48 hours in Vegas while the Bulls were in a tough regular season stretch, being a part-time pro wrestler and his friendship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Fans on twitter were quick to point out this obvious comparison in a string of hilarious replies to the clip posted by NBA on ESPN’s twitter account.

There are also those who tried to find reasonable explanations for Sochan’s free throw form, pointing out how it’s essentially form shooting and could just be that the rookie is working on his shot midseason instead of waiting till the offseason.

Whatever the reason maybe, the clip is objectively hilarious. The comparisons also have some merit to them. Sochan has the look of Rodman, but it remains to be seen whether he can have the same impact as the 5-time champion and former defensive player of the year remains a mystery.

This isn’t the first time Sochan has drawn comparisons to Rodman either. Ever since he was given the #10 jersey, fans have pointed out the similarities. As seen in the following tweets, the Rodman-Sochan comparison has been a favourite of NBA twitter throughout the season.

Like Rodman, Sochan is known to sport bizarre hairstyles and colours. He also is a very defense-first player, emphasising that end of the ball more than the offense. Sochan so far has per game averages of 7.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. The rookie has struggled to shoot both threes (18.4%) and free throws (42.9%). All of this is very similar to Rodman’s own game. The defensive attitude and the lack of shooting only accentuates the comparison to 5-time champ. Even Coach Pop has made the comparison while speaking to the media.

The 10-20 Spurs next head to New Orleans and Orlando in a tough back-to-back Vs. the Pelicans and Magic. The team probably isn’t aiming to make any noise in the West this year and is instead patiently waiting for the lottery and potentially getting to draft Victor Wembanyama. Nonetheless, Spurs fans have the development of youngsters such as Sochan to look forward to this year.
