The exemplary Minnesota Timberwolves are the biggest surprise of the NBA season thus far. Firmly lodged at the top of the Western Conference with a 30-11 record, they produce a commanding 118-103 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies recently.
The Grizzlies find themselves struggling once again after the season-ending injury to Ja Morant. However, for the likes of Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and Karl-Anthony Towns, a potential title run might be on the cards. Things seem to be going in the right direction in all senses. KAT and Gobert did their part against the Grizzlies as well, although it was Edwards who topscored with 28 points.
The game also exposed the kind of friendship that the Timberwolves’ stars have managed to create amongst themselves. While Edwards is often seen having fun off-court, a handshake between KAT and Rudy Gobert caught fans’ attention.
The two, rather non-animatedly, produced a gentlemanly handshake after Towns scored a difficult bucket. While NBA stars tend to come up with complex handshakes generally, fans were impressed with the no-nonsense dap that the Timberwolves’ superstars produced.
One fan even joked on Twitter that the handshake was ‘the next best thing to a french kiss,” as a range of other users also noticed the moment.
Minnesota Timberwolves continue domination in win against Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies were undoubtedly a different monster in the presence of Morant. However, the lack of their biggest stars means that the season is not expected to be a successful one. Regardless, while Edwards scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half, Rudy Gobert returned with a double-double, producing 17 points and 10 rebounds, alongside a season-high of 6 blocks.
KAT had 14 points and 7 rebounds but more than played his part as well. The Timberwolves produced a dominant 37-17 4th quarter which set up the victory. However, it seems as if fans were more engrossed in the kind of handshake Rudy Gobert and KAT have developed.
It was not to say that some Grizzlies stars did not impress. Jaren Jackson Jr. continues his development and is top-scored among the two teams. He scored 36 points, while Luke Kennard added 18. Finally, Santi Aldama had 13 points and 5 assists off the bench. Despite the efforts, it was a comfortable win for the Timberwolves, in the end.
