The Number 1 pick in this year’s draft, Victor Wembanyama, has a lot of expectations going into the regular season. He recently got a chance to display what fans might expect to see in the regular season. In a preseason match against the Golden State Warriors, the young Wembanyama absolutely dominated both ends of the floor.
During his 21 minutes on the floor, Wembanyama clocked in 19 points and 5 blocks. His presence on the court was immense, and his agility on the defensive end left the Warriors unsure how to respond. His speed on both ends of the floor left fans gaping. The Warriors’ offense was left confused and didn’t take shots they regularly would simply because of Wembanyama’s presence.
It was absolutely amazing to see a player of that length move with that speed and agility. The Warriors’ formidable trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins found themselves utterly bewildered by Wembanyama’s defensive prowess. He effortlessly swatted away their shots, rendering them powerless in the face of his defensive dominance.
For Wembanyama, this is just the beginning. He has one of the highest ceilings the NBA has ever seen. He has been touted as one of the best prospects in the NBA, with some calling him the best prospect of all time. Only time will tell how he turns out, but the way things are looking, he’s on a good track.
What does Victor Wembanyama’s future look like?
Wembanyama is part of the San Antonio Spurs organization. Luckily for him, the Spurs are coached by one of the greatest coaches in the NBA – Gregg Popovich.
Popovich is known for his ability to develop rookies into stars in the league. If he works his magic on Wembanyama, he could potentially develop into the greatest player the league has ever seen.
The only thing Wembanyama has to worry about is injuries. His size makes his knees and his joints much more prone to injuries and if he doesn’t work to strengthen them and prevent them, they could derail his career. Hopefully, for him, he’s able to strengthen his body enough to not be affected by these.
