Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama marginally missed out on being the first player since David Robinson to have a quadruple-double in the loss against the Denver Nuggets. The rookie finished the game with 23 points, 15 rebounds, nine blocks, and eight assists.

Maybe if Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. had missed the 3-pointer shot, with 27.1 seconds left on the clock, that ultimately won the game for the Nuggets; who knows, maybe the game might have gone to overtime and given Wemby five more precious minutes to join the exclusive quadruple-double club. However, wishes aren’t horses, as he still has time and more games to achieve the mark.

Only four players in the history of the NBA have achieved the mark, with the last coming 30 years ago by former San Antonio Spurs legend and center Robinson. Furthermore, had Wemby achieved the hallowed mark, he would have been the first rookie to do so.

While he narrowly missed out, the presumptive Rookie of the Year had to settle with being the first player in NBA history to end a game with at least 20 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, and nine blocks. This season has seen him take his place among the greats by making and joining the list of statistical anomalies, and the hope is that his team will be able to match up with him and make the future his own.

Despite being on the losing side, San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama still gave fans present at the Ball Arena, the home court of the Denver Arena, and those following the game elsewhere real entertainment with his performance. He battled with the defending champion’s MVP, Nikola Jokic, and flirted with stats that hadn’t been achieved in over 30 years.

Popular social media platform X saw a frenzy as fans trooped in numbers to talk about the near record-making moment. One user @NotUrBusynes, wrote: “This dude is that good.”

Furthermore, Wemby nearly led his team to an away win over the champions without the services of the injured duo of Jeremy Sochan (ankle) and Devin Vassell (foot). Fresh off winning Rookie of the Month for his conference, he is averaging an impressive 21.2 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 3.6 APG, and 3.4 BPG.
