The Golden State Warriors attempted, though in vain, to pull off what may have been one of the largest bombshell trades in NBA history, attempting to prolong the window of the team’s waning dynasty. The Golden State Warriors made a remarkable effort to bring LeBron James and Stephen Curry together, two of the greatest adversaries in NBA history.

Recent claims from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski state that the Warriors tried to persuade the Lakers front office to think about dealing LeBron James so that he might be paired with fierce rival Stephen Curry before the trade deadline. However, it was only an attempt because James and the Lakers had no interest in looking into the matter further. James’ agent, who is also Draymond Green’s agent, urged the team to inquire about a potential trade with the Lakers.

Owner of the Lakers, Jeanie Buss, reportedly told ESPN that while the organization was willing to work out a deal if James was set on leaving, it was not interested in trading its best player. But when they contacted James’s agent, Rich Paul, they received word that James was content to stay a Laker and was not interested in joining the Warriors.

But neither was this action uncalled for. It followed James’ mysterious social media posts, in which he posted an hourglass image, which the Warriors took as a sign to move. The NBA community was enthralled with the move even if it never happened. It couldn’t be blamed on the Dubs for striving, even though the odds were never good to begin with.

Beginning in the 2014–15 season, James was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He and the Warriors faced off in four consecutive NBA finals, with Golden State coming out on top three times. James’s career was defined by the Cavaliers’ 2016 NBA Finals triumph when he rallied his club from a 3-1 deficit to win their first-ever championship. The championship series also shaped his battle with Curry. But once Woj verified the data, people’s reactions were all over the place.
