Brittney Griner recently got booked for 9 years in Russia and now calling her a “political prisoner” isn’t wrong. She has been locked up in Russia since February. As the Russian officials found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport (less than two grams of oil). She also has a medical prescription for the oil but that didn’t help her at all. When she pled guilty in court she clearly mentioned that it was unintentionally done as she wasn’t aware of the laws in Russia. But the Russian court cares the least and has Brittney Griner behind the bars and wants her punished for 9 long years which is without a doubt a very wrong judgment.
Brittney Griner is a global superstar, has inspired millions of woman hoopers around the globe, and is a gold medalist, Russian Cup Winner and a WNBA champion. She also has a very hard-to-match resume which is stacked with her achievements, awards and honors as a basketball player. But still, Brittney Griner is locked up in the Russian Penal Colony and is just unfortunate to be there. Recently, with her being all over the headlines the rumors of her and NBA’s one of the best players seeing each other resurfaced on the internet.
There are reports which claim that Brittney Griner and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers were engaged once back in the days. Davis has also addressed the WNBA star publically once and has quoted: “She is everything to me… We have an amazing relationship and have so much in common. We even wear the same size clothes and shoes so sometimes she borrows a shirt or two from me.“ But as soon as the rumors went up high in the sky with them being on the heated-up discussion table with the engagement talks. AD was quick to deny them all.
As using his personal Twitter handle, Anthony Davis wrote: “Whoever made that rumor up about me being engaged is corny. I am NOT engaged people!!” The reports though claim Brittney Griner and AD to see each other for a while and then quit on it for things not aging well.
When will Brittney Griner return?
Brittney Griner should have been back on American soil long back ago. Even efforts were made to bring her back but none of those worked. Joe Biden though has promised the country that he’ll get her back on American soil as soon as possible since even he was furious at the sentence announced for BG and called it unacceptable and demanded immediate release. But that’s not how things in Russia work so the two countries right now are negotiating a prisoner swap deal. But the Vladimir Putin government has brought in an unreal demand. Russia has requested U.S.A to add convicted murderer Vadim Krasikov in the deal for the prisoner swap of Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan along with Viktor Bout. Those are some seriously big names who are also a threat to world security. So predicting or even claiming her return is not possible yet.
