On Sunday, the LA Clippers emerged victorious against the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 117-102, marking the Blazers’ sixth consecutive loss. Paul George scored 29 points, while Kawhi Leonard contributed 24 points to the Clippers’ win. The Clippers were coming off a disappointing 113-108 loss to Orlando Magic but bounced back in style against the struggling Blazers.
The blazers are 13th in the Western Conference standings and well outside playoff contention. The clippers held the lead for most of the game, but in the second quarter, the Blazers reduced the deficit and brought the score to 44-42. Despite their efforts, the Blazers could never overtake the Clippers and take the lead.
Despite Jusuf Nurkic’s impressive 23 points and 11 rebounds and Damian Lillard’s 21 points and nine assists, the Blazers were unable to defeat the dominant Clippers.
Russell Westbrook was also in action during the match, played for 34 minutes, and scored nine points. After hitting a 3-pointer, Westbrook clapped at the Blazers fans in attendance.
Due to the head coach Tyronn Lue’s absence, Dan Craig, assistant coach for the Clippers, was assigned to take his place as the interim head coach. Despite the challenge, the team showed their resilience and secured a vital win to solidify their playoff position. Lue was absent due to a non-COVID illness.
Russell Westbrook boosts Clippers’ playoff hopes with starting role
After a tumultuous start to the season with the Lakers, Russell Westbrook has found a new home with the Clippers. While his time with the Lakers was short-lived, Westbrook made a strong case for himself as a 6th man of the Year candidate, proving his worth off the bench.
Now, with the Clippers, Westbrook has been given a starting role and has become a crucial part of the team’s success. Despite his numbers not reflecting his impact, Westbrook’s role as the primary ball-handler has provided the Clippers with the playmaking they were lacking.
The Los Angeles Clippers are currently positioned as the 5th seed in the Western Conference and are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs with the addition of Russell Westbrook. Westbrook is averaging 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.
Westbrook could be the missing piece the Clippers need to finally bring a championship to Los Angeles. Only time will tell if Westbrook and the Clippers can go the distance this year, but for now, the team and its fans are optimistic about what the future holds.
