Stephen A. Smith and Max Strus

Stephen A. Smith may have given the internet another iconic reaction of his. This time though we have Max Strus on the receiving end. As the analyst believes the player is balling like him. Stephen A. Smith was never riding with the Miami Heat. But as they made it to the NBA Finals being an 8th seed he surely had hopes for them. But now against the Denver Nuggets the team, especially, Max Strus has disappointed the life out of him.

The Miami Heat team is down 1-3 against the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals. The season might end today with the Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray-led Denver Nuggets winning their first-ever championship by clowning the Miami Heat. Stephen A. Smith discussing the match-up sounded off on the struggles of the team, especially, SG Max Strus. Strus has been limited to recording only 17 points in the last 4 encounters with the Nuggets in the Finals.

Max Strus is really struggling on both ends of the floor. He’s shooting 20% of the wide-open three-pointers. He is also averaging only 4.3 points while shooting 16.1% from the field and 19.2% from downtown. Stephen A. Smith in his recent rant on ESPN’s “First Take,” ripped him apart for not living up to the expectations in the biggest games of his career.

Stephen A. Smith used a self-burn take while bringing Molly Qerim and Monica McNutt to the conversation for clowning Max Strus. He went on to say:  “Max Strus has no business recording just as many points as me. He has no business as a starting shooting guard — that means your job is to shoot — you have no excuse to be recording as many points as me, Molly [Qerim], Monica McNutt!” He even addressed and related the 2 games where Strus contributed with Donuts to the team.

Can Max Strus’ struggles in the Finals affect his Free Agency?

Max Strus will soon be an Unrestricted Free Agent. He has proved his worth after going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft. But he’s yet to get a bag and this summer was his time to shine. But the struggles of his in the NBA Finals can change the story the other way around and he may have to accept a new offer for a lesser amount of money. He was playing decent ball throughout the offseason but now in the Finals where he plays a key role in the rotation, he’s putting up no numbers and disappointing the team.

Max Strus during the offseason averaged 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.1 blocks while shooting 41% from the field and 35% from downtown. So he’ll surely be getting offers from teams who are looking for Free Agents to lead the second unit or have an impactful run when needed.

The Miami Heat will also try to retain him. But if he doesn’t shine in Game 5 of the Finals and the Nuggets win it all with him not showing up with numbers. He’ll surely be losing a lot of value in the market.
