“We want Russ to be Russ,” Clippers HC Tyronn Lue expects ‘big plays’ from Russell Westbrook and wants him to become the MVP
Tyron Lue believes Russell Westbrook being himself and playing his game is the key to success for the Clippers
Los Angeles Clippers recently added Russell Westbrook to their roster, in hopes of sailing their ship to the ultimate gold. And fair to say, coach Tyronn Lue is thrilled to have the nine-time NBA All-Star on the team and wants him to play his game. In a media conference introducing Westbrook to the team on Wednesday, Lue said, “We want Russ to be Russ.”
The former MVP, has a reputation for being an explosive and aggressive player on the court. His addition to the Clippers is anticipated to bolster the team’s firepower, which already features superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Fans are excited to see how the team will perform with Westbrook on board.
“We want Russ to be Russ. If he’s doing too much or not enough, I’ll let him know. We want him to be the MVP, the Hall of Famer that he is. We just gotta make sure it’s in the confines of our team… He’s excited, he just wants to win,” said Tyronn Lue on Russell Westbrook.
The Utah Jazz released the nine-time All-Star on Monday. He cleared waivers because no team had enough salary cap room to pay him the remaining $47 million on his expiring deal.
Westbrook could have a slim chance of practising on Thursday if his physical is positive. In their first matchup following the All-Star break, the Clippers—fourth in the Western Conference with a 33-28 record—will face Sacramento Kings on Friday.

Paul George and Russell Westbrook are once again teammates
Russell Westbrook and Paul George enjoyed a good run with the Oklahoma City Thunder as teammates, with both players enjoying strong seasons. The combination seemed to be capable of leading the squad for several years until George was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.
During his two seasons with the Thunder, George averaged 25.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 43.4% from the field and 39.2% from beyond the arc.
While Westbrook was dominant, averaging 24.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game.
It remains to be seen if the duo can replicate their success with their new team. Westbrook and George have officially reunited and will be hoping to wreck havoc on the floor. And with the presence of superstar Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers have the potential for a thrilling future.
