Klay Thompson has his sporting genes to thank for his abilities and athleticism on the basketball court. The hardworking marquee scorer has a strong sporting family background and his mother Julie Thompson is regarded as the backbone of it.
One of the Splash brothers – Klay Thompson had a rich sporting family background. His father Mychal Thompson was a 2-time NBA champion with Los Angeles Lakers in 1987 and 1988. His mother was a star player for her collegiate Volleyball team. Since his father was busy with his schedule, his athlete mother encouraged Klay Thompson to play games of his liking and pushed him hard to go for bigger achievements.
Klay had athleticism in his veins as his father Mychal played in the NBA and his mother was also an athlete, but he chose his father’s profession and went on to become one of the brightest stars in the league today. Proud parents do follow Klay’s game and give him tips or two to improve on.

High school-going Julie Thompson joined the Ridgefield High girls’ volleyball team and had tremendous success in the game. The team was runners-up in the state, in 1980 and 1981. She loved the game and continued with it in her college years too, at Portland. Star in the team, Julie played a huge role as star setter. She even met her future husband – Mychal Thompson at a gym at the University of Portland, and they married in 1987.
Staying connected to the sports world, Julie and Mychal encouraged their children to choose the game of their interest. All three sons had their fair share of stardom in their respective sports. Yet Klay Thompson made a name for himself as an elite hooper and 3-time NBA Champion with Golden State Warriors.
His oldest brother Mychel played basketball at the university level and helped the D-League team – the Santa Cruz Warriors win the NBA D-League Championship. On the other hand, younger brother Trayce was a second-round draft pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2009, currently playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While all the men in the family, have most of the attention, the proud lady of the house – Julie is happy to give her backing to all. Humble in nature but strong-minded Julie is very much recognized and loved by her family.
The Thompsons have a foundation for helping people to restart their work and join offices. Champion-minded Klay always had a huge support system from his parents – especially his mother.
