There have been rumors regarding a possible banner for the Los Angeles Lakers winning the NBA’s in-season tournament on Saturday night. Hearing this news, many have given their opinions
The Lakers beat the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night, thereby advancing to the final of the NBA In-Season Tournament. Come Saturday, the team will seek to claim victory in the inaugural In-Season Tournament after a bout with Tyrese Haliburton‘s Indiana Pacers. After Thursday’s game, it was reported that the Lakers would only hang a banner if they won the actual NBA title
NBA Insider Marc Stein said that the Lakers haven’t yet made up their mind if they will raise the banners after winning on Saturday night. Stein wrote:
One source with knowledge of the team’s thinking said after the Lakers’ semifinal rout of New Orleans that no determination has been made yet, one way or the other, about raising a banner to the Crypto.com Arena rafters if LeBron James and Co. can beat the Haliburton-led Pacers in Saturday night’s IST final
Firstly, the Lakers have to beat the Pacers on Saturday before this issue arises here. Indiana has made it to the finals of the league’s In-Season Tournament as they downed the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Lakers soar to victory: LeBron James’ dominance put them against the in-form Pacers
The Lakers dominated as Lebron James scored a big one in a 104-82 win against the Pelicans on Thursday night. The four-time NBA champion managed to score 30 points to go with five rebounds and eight assists despite playing less than 25 minutes of game time. Since the banner was still being formed, there is no established tradition for NBA teams to have a championship banner after winning the In-Season Tournament.
With 17 NBA titles under their belt, the Los Angeles Lakers are among the most well-known teams in the league. According to reports, they will only hang banners if they win the actual NBA title to preserve the ‘sanctity’ of the tradition. This is not confirmed by anybody yet
It would be amazing if Los Angeles could win both the NBA Finals and the In-Season Tournament in the 2023–2024 season. The Lakers made a serious push for the title in the previous campaign, reaching the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Denver Nuggets.
