How was #1 draft pick Paolo Banchero involved in Mike Krzyzewski’s grandson DWI-related charge

Paolo Banchero has been one of the most exciting players in this year’s NBA Draft due to his athleticism. The Duke University alumni had the honors of being selected No.1 overall solely based off the level of skill he possesses. Just like other NBA greats from the past, he is also looked as a potential candidate to be the face of the organisation.

But being on his level of fame sees a large sum of expectations that people set up for you. The Orlando Magic forward was once charged under a DWI case involving the grandson of  former head coach of Duke, Michael Savarino. Late last year, the two were pulled over and tested with a breathalyser. Michael, who was driving got arrested but Banchero escaped.

A few days later the baller was confronted about the situation as it made headlines. He replied saying, “I’m not going to say it wasn’t on my mind the past two games… I think we all learn from it… can’t say much about it. But we learned from it and we handled it as a team. And we’ve moved on now.”

As expected, rookie Paolo Banchero has been gaining a lot of attention from basketball enthusiasts far and wide. When it comes to him, the Magic can be a serious threat if they build a good support system around the rook. He has been extremely productive on the court providing equal responsibility on offense and defense.

He has averaged 22.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in his first four official NBA games. He is currently shooting 42.6% from the field making 50% of his attempts from mid range. He is also a very good free throw shooter sinking 81.1% of his attempts.

Despite his strong efforts, it does not seem like he is enough to bring the Magic out the ashes. They have gone 0-4 so far which is highly concerning if the trend continues henceforth. The roster currently lacks a superstar that would have remotely helped them settle somewhere among the middle order teams. On the bright side, they are a fairly young team which could work in their favor during rebuild.
