“Must have a thing for skinny white kids” – NBA officials put on blast by Rockets legend after Tyler Herro – Amen Thompson fight

Vernon Maxwell and Amen Thompson

The Miami Heat and Houston Rockets altercation came with consequences. The NBA stated that Terry Rozier remains suspended for one game, and Amen Thompson remains suspended for two games. Meanwhile, Jalen Green, Tyler Herro, and Ime Udoka received a fine of $35,000, $25,000, and $5,000, respectively. Thompson and Herro initiating physical contact was the highlight of the game.

Vernon Maxwell, a former Rockets player, thought Tyler Herro received a minimal punishment following the altercation between the Rockets and the Heat because the NBA is attempting to shield him. Regarding Herro’s resemblance to Machine Gun Kelly, Maxwell referred to him as “MGK.” He also charged that the NBA had a history of discriminating against the Houston Rockets.

2 game suspension for Amen. 25K fine and no suspension for the instigator MGK [Tyler Herro]. The league has never liked Houston and they must have a thing for skinny white kids that can’t rap.

Given that Herro was equally responsible for the brawl’s beginning as Thompson was, Maxwell does raise a valid issue. Even though he didn’t force another player to the surface, Herro did get in Thompson’s face and attempted to rile him up after the incident.

Consequently, Tyler Herro and Amen Thompson received different punishments. Herro’s fine was also less than that of Jalen Green, who joined the altercation in an attempt to defuse the situation. The disparity in fines and suspensions among the four players who received the fines from the league will bring heat to Joe Dumars and the NBA.

Vernon Maxwell offered to pay Amen Thompson’s NBA fine

Vernon Maxwell praised Amen Thompson in a follow-up post on X. He promised to pay any fee resulting from the guard’s ban as well as any other player the NBA fines or decides to sanction for defending their teammates during the tumultuous altercation.

I love me some Amen Thompson. Put his fine on my tab, Rockets. And I’ll take care of anyone else’s fine that stands up for their Rockets teammates.

Maxwell’s offer to cover the fine might not happen. The players have yet to accept his offer. It remains to be seen if Maxwell’s plan goes through or not. Aside from this, all eyes will be on the NBA and how they tackle these issues further into the season.
