“Oh we’re way behind,” Anthony Davis on LA Lakers 2021-22 Season Journey

“Oh we’re way behind,” Anthony Davis on LA Lakers 2021-22 Season Journey

LA Lakers’ Anthony Davis seemed quite upset after the loss against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday by 123-97 at the staples center. The loss has left the LA Lakers questioning their defensive game and their position in the league without their star players. Neither the coach nor the players are pleased with this very thought. Evidently, the 2020 NBA Champions have a lot to prove entering the upcoming season and anythign less than a championship would be considered a disappointment by mnay.

The absence of the players like LeBron, Russell Westbrook, Trevor Ariza, and Carmelo Anthony was very well felt in the game. Anthony Davis couldn’t do much as he was benched after the first quarter and had no option but to watch the LA Lakers struggle not just defensively but offensively as well.

“There’s a lot of areas we can get better. I think we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds. That was key tonight. That won’t happen. As I said, it’s the first game. We’ll be a lot better. It’s no need to panic or anything,” the 35-year-old veteran told the interviewer after the match.

Anthony Davis, whose presence on the court as a center is very important if the Lakers wish to win another NBA championship told the reporters how lacking the team was in the pre-season match against the Brooklyn Nets.

Oh we’re way behind,” the Lakers star Anthony Davis told the media.

He further went on to add, “Getting movement on offense, quality shots. Defensively — talking, getting our schemes right. Rebounding — very huge — we’re not boxing out. And that was the main takeaway. The offense will come. We’re not too worried about it, especially when we get Bron, Melo, (Ariza), Russ out there. But it was the first game to see where we are, and we have to do a better job defensively, especially blocking out.”

With LeBron James and Russell Westbrook as the offensive face of the team, the LA Lakers should focus on building a defensive wall and a system to acquire all the offensive and defensive rebounds. LeBron James and Russell Westbrook are known for their intense and fierce game skills and stopping them is no small feat for a defender. They can either breeze through the defenders or would destruct the whole defense of their opponents.

Amongst all these opinions, the head coach of the LA Lakers has totally a new and optimistically driven perception. He told the reporters, “As expected, some were good, some were not. I think we played at a pretty good pace. I liked the rim protection of DeAndre and Dwight and AD when they were out there. Having that type of length is going to be really beneficial to our defense this year. I just think we forced a little bit offensively. We only had 17 assists, so we didn’t play the pass enough but, overall, pretty good things.”

We can only hope that the LA Lakers would get their charm back once their key players begin to play in the games.

The LA Lakers are to face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, October 6th at the Footprint Centre, Phoenix. No one knows whether LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, or Trevor Ariza will join the game or the bench.
