Reports: Brooklyn Nets’ plans for securing Kyrie Irving’s full-time services in the 2021-22 season
Kyrie Irving
For the Brooklyn Nets, the season had begun on a very questionable note. One of their main pieces, Kyrie Irving had chosen to sit out this season until the New York State and the NBA curbed the vaccination rules. This led to the star being banned for road games that he had initially been permitted to participate which left many questioning their chances of a title shot this season.
The Brooklyn Nets somehow managed to make it to the top of the Eastern Conference fighting an ongoing battle with the Chicago Bulls for the top seed. Kevin Durant had stepped up taking the leadership role as intended and in his absence, James Harden took over with his incredible offensive power.
Kyrie Irving made his 2021-22 season debut versus Indiana Pacers
After nearly four months, Kyrie Irving was finally granted permission to join his squad on road games. The team decided to keep him out because he denied the vaccination and it so happened to be the same reason (sudden rise in cases within the league) why they made an exception for him to play again.
He had made his debut against the Indiana Pacers where he scored a total of 22 points with 3 rebounds and 4 assists shooting 9-17 in the game. Many were skeptical to put the All-Star in the starting lineup but it was almost as if he had only stepped out for a game or two.
The Nets were able to bag a victory against the Pacers and Kyrie claimed that he was definitely jittery and that he could not sleep the night prior. The Brooklyn Nets were very visibly happy about his return and with Kyrie playing at the level that he is, the Nets might be a huge threat for the rest of the NBA to worry about.
Kyrie Irving permitted to play all games if the Nets pay a fine
A month after announcing Kyrie Irving’s return, the league had said that he could be allowed to play only if the Brooklyn Nets agree to pay a penalty every game henceforth.
The amount required to be paid comes up to a total of $5000 (US) per game. The break-up starts with $1000 (US) from the second offense, $2000 (US) from the third offense, and $5000 (US) for every offense after that. No statement has been released on the Brooklyn Nets accepting the offer but it could work out wonders for them shortly.
