James Harden has a lot of history with many teammates not being able to play alongside him and it is not entirely because of his playing. Earlier in February, Harden got traded to the Philadelphia 76ers from the Brooklyn Nets for reasons he stated saying he was “desperate for a ring” and his time in the league was shortening. Harden’s chances of winning a title were strong before he left the Nets but his decision was seemingly more out of anger rather than sensibility.
So far with the Sixers, James Harden did have a few great games and a couple of sluggish performances. In his last five games, he averaged 15.8 points per game shooting less than his usual 40% from the field. The Sixers head coach himself called Harden out on his poor faring during those games. He averaged 21 points, 10.5 assists, and 7.1 rebounds with his new team in 21 games.

The James Harden situation in Brooklyn was very tough to witness for many. James pushed to get out of his team after being surrounded by teammates who were not hungry enough for a title. For the first half of the season, Kyrie Irving had not been active with the team based on his stance on the vaccine mandate. The mandate would eventually be lifted allowing Irving to only participate in road games. This was when the situation escalated as Harden had no hopes of the state bending the rules.
Meanwhile, the beard was suffering from a hamstring injury himself and Kevin Durant would also be sidelined due to an injury and then a death in his family. Frustrated Harden would push for the trade to Philly and the Nets would describe him as being very hostile. The Nets would receive Ben Simmons, a defensive juggernaut that they needed as well as Seth Curry and Andre Drummond who provide a good balance on the court.

James Harden and the Nets super team have turned out to be one of the league’s biggest “what ifs” to have ever taken place. The short-term roster had other reasons why they dismantled, Kevin Durant apparently had problems before his journey with James began. Durant is one of the only reasons why the Nets have been able to stay in playoff contention even though they have the play-in tournament ahead of them.
Sources within the league revealed the team was very disappointed with the way Harden had showed up for training camp after being traded to the team. KD tried to be very understanding of the beard’s condition but it would soon be let go off after he started off the season very sluggish and not explosive at all. Durant had expectations of his former teammate to be more committed and prepared for winning a title but all of those were never met.
