“Shit happens” Draymond Green’s brutally honest take on Marcus Smart’s kick on teammate Klay Thompson
Draymond Green on Marcus Smart
On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors took on the underdogs of the East, the Boston Celtics. Dub Nation took a major hit in the standing after the Celtics defeated them by 22-points (88-110). The Warriors have taken a slight withdrawal in their usual offensively aggressive playing style which is costing them games at a stretch as well. The Celtics are still managing to climb further up the leaderboard and closer to the top three in their division.
Jayson Tatum led the Celtics finishing with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists making 6 of 16 attempts from the field. Jaylen Brown has 26 points as well with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Marcus Smart was one of the biggest highlights of the night and it was not for the 20 points he put up. For the Warriors, Jordan Poole led the team in scoring with 29 points shooting 50% from the field. Klay Thompson was the only other player who had more than 10 points on the board.

During the second quarter with a little over four minutes left on the clock, the Celtics lost possession which into a scramble to secure a loose ball. In the middle of the scramble was Stephen Curry who got stomped over by Marcus Smart. Immediately after the ball resumed play, Klay Thompson was passed the ball for an open layup. Smart hurried onto defense trying to stop Klay by jumping into him to block attempts. The results of Smart’s actions did not look too appealing to viewers who termed his a dirty play.
After 14 minutes of playing time, Curry was taken out of the game following the incident. Following an MRI scan, doctors have confirmed that the point guard has no bone damage. He was then diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his left foot. Curry will remain out indefinitely which may jeopardize the Warriors’ playoff run. Head Coach Steve Kerr who was angered by Smart’s move said, “I thought it was a dangerous move. I thought Marcus dove into Steph, and that’s what I was upset about. We talked after the game and we’re good. But I thought it was a dangerous play.”
Draymond Green reacts to Marcus Smart’s attempt to hurt Klay Thompson in an open layup
Draymond Green had returned a game earlier after having been seated out for a long stretch suffering from a calf injury caused by a disc-related issue in the lower back. The NBA trio would finally be paired up after almost three years. Sadly, the reunion only lasted for one game before Curry went down with his injury. Green would react to the next play that was seemingly very intentional. He said, “I saw the kick, but shit happens. I’ve kicked somebody before. It is what it is.”
“I can’t call it a dirty play. I would say it’s an unnecessary dive… if you said someone on the Celtics team dove for the ball, I’d tell you right away Marcus Smart dove for it.” Green would continue to appreciate the Celtics for their season comeback saying, “They started off pretty shitty. The way they turned their season around, you really gotta give those guys credit.” The green knights began as one of the bottom teams in the Eastern Conference and had setbacks due to injuries. Jayson Tatum helped keep their hopes alive and carried the team offensively while the rest worked their defensive prowess.
