“Simply the Best Coach in the game” LeBron James proclaims rival coach Tyronn Lue major COTY candidate
Ty Lue and LeBron James in the bubble
Tyronn Lue and the LA Clippers fought a hard fight this season trying to get into the playoffs despite having two top players out. The Clippers had to keep themselves afloat and it was quite a tough challenge without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard who got injured last season during the post-season run. They were not successful in the play-in tournament games first being upset by Minnesota and the Pelicans as of last night.
Lue was very disappointed as this was his first time not reaching the playoffs as an assistant or head coach of any team. “It’s a disappointed locker room, but those guys in there have nothing to hang their head about. I know we didn’t make the playoffs, but considering everything that went on this year, I’m very proud of our guys,” said the coach.
LA Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans Game Recap
Tyronn Lue certainly put a lot of effort into the Clippers this season especially as they were initially at the top as playoff contenders. George’s brief exit from the game hurt the team consequently taking them down to the play-in berths. As unfortunate as the circumstance may have been, the Clippers faced two tragic losses in the play-ins.
George did not play against the Pelicans who defeated Los Angeles 105-101, therefore, cutting their playoff dreams short. Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson both had 27 points each during the game. PG13’s presence would have given them a boost on offense as he put up 24.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game this season. George was out on health and safety protocols. The Clippers shot 41.2% from the field, 25% from three, and 64.7% from the line in their final game.
LeBron James praises Tyronn Lue for being a COTY candidate level leader
LeBron James, who played under Tyronn Lue during his coaching years with the Cleveland Cavaliers, praised Lue on Twitter saying, “Simply the BEST coach in the game! ARGUE with your kids, not me.” LeBron had a very successful run in Cleveland being coached by Lue as well as other players like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.
Ty Lue helped the Cavs win their first-ever NBA title during his very first year as head coach in 2016. The Cavs finished first in the central division three years in a row and made the playoffs consecutive during those seasons. Lue joined the Clippers last season where he led the team to the Western Conference Finals. They finished fourth in the West with a record of 47 wins and 25 losses. Despite having a poor run this year, the Clippers are expected to have a fully healthy and functioning roster inclusive of Kawhi who will be returning after injury.
