Sixers News: Joel Embiid enters NBA Health and Safety Protocols; Expected to Miss Several Weeks

Joel Embiid

Just like in the previous season, Joel Embiid has managed to lead the Philadelphia 76ers even in the NBA 2021-22 Season. Even when the team is without, marquee playmaker Ben Simmons, it is Embiid among other stars who have made sure that the Doc Rivers coached side maintains their upwards trajectory. However, after many stars have been reported to enter the NBA Health and Safety Protocol, Joel Embiid has become the latest addition to that list.

After taking the top honors in the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia 76ers were all set to rest Joel Embiid in the home game against the New York Knicks in a back-to-back of the 2021-22 season. Yet news broke out that the marquee star could be potentially out for weeks as he has entered the NBA Health and Safety Protocols.

Now to those who are not aware of the recent news in the world of NBA, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Monday that Embiid could miss multiple games while in protocol. The Philadelphia 76ers are also without Tobias Harris, Isaiah Joe and Matisse Thybulle, who all have been placed in health and safety protocol.

If the 27-years-old tests positive for COVID-19, he will not be allowed to exercise for a minimum of 10 days. Embiid could return sooner if he returns two negative PCR tests at least 24 hours apart.

It’s unclear just how many contests Embiid could end up missing, but Charania notes that he’ll likely be held out for at least 10 days, unless he’s able to return two negative COVID-19 tests within a 24-hour period. Having said that, Joel Embiid’ absence could majorly hinder the run of the 76ers as they are all set to lock horns against teams like Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers in the upcoming weeks.
