Klay Thompson’s return has been perhaps the most anticipated return of recent times. Klay tore his ACL on June 13th, 2019, in Game-6 of the 2018-19 NBA Finals. It cost the Warriors big time as they lost the Finals and a chance for a rare three-peat.

Klay recovered from the injury and was set to return to the NBA the previous season (2020-21). But just days before the start of the season, he ruptured his Achilles tendon and had to miss out on the entire season and almost half of the 2021-22 season. Now, his recovery is complete and he is ready to take the court.

Klay Thompson’s return will be as celebrated as Jordan’s: Coach Steve Kerr

Coach Steve Kerr was recently in front of the media talking about Klay Thompson’s ‘special‘ moment. Kerr told the media – “This is not the outcome of the game that is so anticipated. It’s the moment itself, it’s the occasion, it’s what’s being celebrated.

Kerr then compared this moment with some other iconic moments in NBA history. Kerr gave the example of New York celebrating Stephen Curry breaking the all-time three-point record. He also gave the example of Indianapolis celebrating Michael Jordan returning to the NBA after a hiatus he took to play baseball. When Jordan returned to the NBA in 1995, he had just two words for the media to announce it – “I’m back”, much like how Klay Thompson did today.

Kerr said – “In New York, what was being celebrated was Steph’s entire career and his impact on the game. In Indianapolis, what was being celebrated was Michael Jordan’s return to the game. With Klay, the moment will be about a guy’s perseverance and his love for the game, and everyone else’s love for him. That’s why it’s going to be special”

The Golden State Warriors are already going strong this season, sitting currently at the 2nd spot in the Western Conference with a record of 29-9, only marginally behind the 1st seeded Phoenix Suns’ 30-9. With Klay in the mix, we can expect Warriors to only get stronger from here.
