Russell Westbrook trade rumors

Russell Westbrook is the center of all the hate the Los Angeles Lakers have received this season. From being criticized over his shooting capabilities to his inability of finishing in transition and then his overall decline in production. The Lakers have not figured out where the problem lies between the team and the players but just brushed off the questions by saying, “We’re still figuring it out.”

The Lakers are currently out of playoff contention after losing to the Phoenix Suns earlier this week. They are now the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a record of 32 wins and losses. Losing multiple players along the way was a huge setback for the team but when it was time for Russell Westbrook to lead the team, he failed.

After losing eight games at a stretch the Lakers were able to win against a six-man roster Oklahoma City Thunder. Russell Westbrook had not participated in the game that night. However, he last played against the Suns finishing with 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists on 50% shooting. This was one of his only good games on the season after failing to produce during the right situations.

Westbrook is currently averaging 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game on 44.4% shooting from the field. This is the first time the point guard has averaged numbers so low since 2009 when he put up 16.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 8 assists which may have been better than now while being compared to the player he has grown to be. Westbrook currently ranks fifth in the NBA in turnovers which may have turned into one of his biggest weaknesses.

Russell Westbrook is rumored to be traded to the Charlotte Hornets

Russell Westbrook was part of numerous trade rumors during the season after not meeting the expectations of the Lakers’ franchise on bringing frontrunners for the title. Recently, the Charlotte Hornets expressed their interest in the point guard and NBA reporter Marc Stein said that it is solely financial-based. Westbrook has an extension for one more season with the Lakers where they owe him $47 million (US). The two players that could be traded for him are Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier.

Analyst Shannon Sharpe weighed in on the rumors saying, “I think Russ is going to get traded. I’m not sure whether it is going to be in Charlotte, but I think Charlotte will be an ideal place for him. Let me tell you why. This is the type of team Russ needs to play for. They’re gonna have very few games on television. There’s not a whole lot of championship expectations, so he’s not going to get the heavy critique that he gets in a place like LA.”
