“The pressure is mounting by the moment, I just don’t think he feels it” Skip Bayless belives James Harden doesn’t have the drive to achieve supreme success
Skip Bayless and James Harden
James Harden is being looked upon as the missing piece to the Philadelphia 76ers’ success. Over the years especially since, Joel Embiid’s arrival into the team’s lineup, they have been a big threat in the league on both ends of the court. Embiid has been playing incredibly averaging 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game shooting 49.9% from the field.
The center is currently one of the leading candidates for the Most Valuable Player award this season, but Harden, on the other hand, isn’t. Much like the Sixers, James Harden has had multiple opportunities during his career to win a ring but his luck would not work out. The Beard was shipped to the Sixers as he felt that they were the best situation for him to win the championship. But now, it feels the complete opposite after his most recent comments.
James Harden enters an awkward slump ahead of the Sixers playoff series
James Harden started off his career as a Sixer with a bang averaging 24.6 points shooting 53% from the field and 45% from three. His pairing with Embiid was very promising and seemed like a big problem to be faced. Soon that notion would die after Harden started slowing down in pace after his fifth game. He only averaged 19.9 points, 36% from the field and 29% from three until the season finale.
Unlike the first few games, his last five matches worsen as he averaged 15.8 points per game on less than 40% shooting. His usual explosiveness, off-the-dribble shooting, and flashy ball-handling were not visible at all, in fact, they have not been shown in Brooklyn either. Recently, he spoke about the upcoming playoffs saying, “I don’t (have anything to prove). I don’t feel any pressure. I don’t feel any of that. For me, it’s going out there and playing my game, trying to help my team win.”
Skip Bayless calls out James Harden for poor quality performances
James Harden mostly certainly shocked the world with his attitude coming into the NBA playoffs. The situation during the trade deadline occurred surrounding the player’s desperation of winning a title. Harden has a lot to prove and show that his decision was valid. Skip Bayless commented on Harden’s words saying, “The world is watching the pressure is mounting, but I don’t think he feels it, which is my issue with him.”
“I don’t ever sense any drive to dominate or to have supreme success or to go win multiple championships. His mentality is, ‘what? Me, worry? I don’t care.’” Bayless would compare Harden’s capabilities to his former teammate Kyrie Irving but admitted that it would not work no since the Beard only scores on foul calls. James may have been trying to remain calm in order to work better in the playoffs with the Sixers but the lack of Harden-Esque tendencies in his playing has definitely worried to masses.
