“The real magician this year” Patrick Beverley reveals how rival Russell Westbrook hurt his career with a single quote
Patrick Beverley explained how Russell Westbrook hurt his career
We all know that Russell Westbrook has become the biggest target for criticizers after his disgusting ongoing season and now his rival Patrick Beverley has also stepped in to make the former MVP regret his career-damaging statement on him. The beef between these two has a long history and their rivalry is getting worse day by day as Beverly now went way back and dig out the past statement by Westbrook.
During a recent interview with J.J. Redick on “The Old Man & the Three” podcast, the Wolves Guard revealed how Westbrook’s statement damaged his reputation in the NBA and from there the players and coaches started taking him lightly.
Patrick Beverley jeers at Russell Westbrook’s disgusting season after he damaged his career in 2019
Back in 2019, when Westbrook was with the Rockets he stated, “Pat Bev trick y’all, man. Like he’s playing defense. He don’t guard nobody, man. He’s just running around doing nothing.” Russell’s statement came when his then-teammate James Harden dropped 47 points on Pat Bev in a win over the LA Clippers.
At that time, Beverley didn’t utter a word against him, but nearly after three years, he couldn’t stop himself from clapping back at Westbrook when he is going through the worst season of his career. He jeered on the nine times all-star through a tweet where he tweeted, “I remember when somebody said all I do is run around and I trick y’all ? well my boy is The Real Magician this year.”
Just one month after the tweet, Redick asked Beverly about his tweet on the podcast, where the Timberwolves guard said:
“I call that perfect timing, divine timing,” Beverley said. “You know people looked at me differently? People around the NBA, coaches, players, like after that people were just taking the ball just going at me.
“I’m like, ‘What the f—?’ All because of what one person said, and that’s how the media is. If one person says one thing, that’s how they take it. And they take it just for that. People really looked at it like, ‘Yeah, maybe this motherf—er don’t play defense. The only thing he does is run around.’
“So, obviously, I had one bad game. ‘Oh Russ was right. I knew this motherf—–; the only thing he did is run around and stuff like that.’ You know, it’s no fun when the rabbit gots the gun now.”
“He damaged my career,” Beverley continued. “Coaching staffs and players, fans, they looked at me way different. They looked at me like, ‘You know what, he don’t play defense. He just yells and run around,’ and held onto that, and some people still do.”
The feud between Beverly and Westbrook seems never-ending as they both try to pull each other’s leg whenever they get a chance, but this time Pat got an edge as his team Minnesota are ahead of the Lakers in the western conference, and while the LA-based franchise is still struggling to get in the top 8’s.
