LeBron James and Co. have yet again humiliated themselves against the Minnesota Timberwolves, this makes it a three-game losing streak in their last 10 games in the league. LeBron James explains what the Lakers must do to get out of such situations.
LeBron James speaks on what needs to be done by the Lakers
The game was undoubtedly out of the Lakers hands, LeBron James had a bad game, scoring just 19 points for the purple and gold. He had an 8-21 shooting and 1-8 from beyond the arc. The Lakers only stuck close on the scoreboard, but never really looked threatening for the young Timberwolves team. In the post-match interview, LeBron James talked about what needs to be done in order to get out of such situations. “We just have to make shots. It’s not rocket science. Just make shots,” said LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers had a disoriented 1st quarter against the Timberwolves, the score in the 1st quarter was 31-17, it is not just the defensive act they need to get straight but also getting buckets to keep up with the building pressure, noting is going to matter if they are not able to stop teams from scoring. A similar situation was seen in the games against the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors, where they gave away a huge point. Giving away such points only means they are making their life miserable on the court and coming back from such a deficit is definitely going to take a chunk out of their tank.
LeBron James and Co. need to defend better
LeBron James and co. are the 4th worst defense in the league with a defensive rating of 120.6, with them averaging a defensive rating of 111.4 they are the 17th team on the list. It makes no sense if the Lakers can’t stop their opponents from scoring. Things look pretty slim for the Lakers, with them sitting out of the playoffs and almost drifting away from the play-in tournament, they have to get their act together as a team, they need to stop relying on individuals to change the tide of the game.
Having the oldest team in the league is also a part of the reason that they are poor defensively. They don’t have a young squad who can do the running in defense and give some extra mileage to the aging legs of some players. The opponents have young players who time and time again bring in a strong injection of pace to the game in their favor, and the Lakers do not really have an answer for that. It is hard to believe that the Lakers were being considered as the favourites for the NBA title this season.
