“There is plenty of blame to go around” Stephen A Smith criticises Lakers franchise for extremely poor management

Based on how the Los Angeles Lakers season has been and what they have got to work with, the core members of the team were very optimistic to try harder to win more games in the second half of the season. This past trade deadline, the Lakers organization had not made any changes or move to acquire potentially better pieces for their team. Anthony Davis who plays the forward position was very relieved that they retained the same players because he feels that the situation is workable.

Now that the trade deadline is over, the Lakers have another problem they have to face soon after next season. LeBron James has been an exceptional player at the age of 37, but being that old might mean that his time in the league is coming to an end. James only has one more year left on his contract after which he will enter free agency. So the Lakers fail to bring him a championship-worthy roster, what would LeBron do?

It is very evident and fair to say that the LA Lakers have been very messy this season. Injuries were a force to deal with but there is no excuse to be given if there is simply no chemistry. It is obvious that the franchise tried to stack the roster with the notion of it bringing them quick wins but you cannot fill a group with five leaders and not expect a million decisions that do not necessarily work.

Stephen A. Smith tried to explain why the blame cannot only be imposed on LeBron. He said, “There’s blame to go around everywhere. Nobody can be absolved from it and that’s why they got a chance to fix it because in a room together they all got to look at one another and say hey, we’re all culpable.” The analyst brought up the fact that Lakers owner Genie Bus does not want to use the luxury tax, and that Rob Pelinka just cannot say no to LeBron James.

Besides all the injuries, LeBron is to be blamed for choosing his long-time friend Russell Westbrook when there were many other workable options that would have fitted the requirements of the Lakers. They could have opted to retain point guard Alex Caruso who is a much better defensive presence over Brodie. The other options were DeMar DeRozan who is having an MVP level season and Buddy Hield who is a lethal shooter of the ball, a skill Westbrook is not greatly known for.

Is Anthony Davis the root cause of the LA Lakers’ problematic season?

If viewers had paid good attention, Anthony Davis is not reliable when it comes to being healthy. The player has always had troubles with his ankles and knees due to his extra lanky body. Davis is also very aggressive within the paint which may be the cause of a lot of his injuries.

Jalen Rose, a former NBA player said that it all depends on how AD works around his injuries. He brought up the fact that two out of three seasons the core team has been together, only one time Davis was healthy enough to bring the championship home with LeBron. Last year, the team was eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the first round due to Davis’ inability to produce. However, this year the Lakers still have a chance to make it as Davis is expected to be back from rehabilitation in about a month, just in time for the play-in tournament.
