“They have a lot of problems and it ain’t just LeBron James” Jay Williams and Keyshawn Johnson suggest Lakers’ loss against Rockets summarise their entire 2021-22 disastrous season
KJC on Los Angeles Lakers
The air above the Los Angeles Lakers team has grown stormy as they lost to the worst team in the league, the Houston Rockets. As far as the playoffs go, this does not look good for the Lakers as other teams have been much more powerful than the Rockets this season. So why fight for a playoff spot at this point? Players of the team have been extremely hopeful in trying to formulate a winning solution ahead of the play-in tournament.
At the moment, the Lakers are down a top defensive piece in Anthony Davis who also had a lot of productivity on offense as well. Analysts have often said that the entire franchise has to be blamed for the downfall of the former favorites of the Western Conference. However, another question has been raised as LeBron James continues to put in all his effort into winning. The King has been putting up some of his best numbers this season averaging 29.3 points with 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game.
The Los Angeles Lakers get overthrown by the Houston Rocket at overtime
The LA Lakers had a decent start to the game maintaining a close lead but the Houston Rocket took over easily during the second quarter. The Lakers made huge efforts in finishing the game towards the end after upping their offense with the role players. But it was Jalen Green’s final antics that gave the Rockets a huge lead at overtime 139-130.
It seems that the Lakers mostly fell short due to their shooting as they shot only 69.2% from the line while missing many important field goals throughout the battle. Russell Westbrook leads the Lakers’ offense for the majority of the game scoring 30 points with 8 rebounds and 6 assists. LeBron James had a triple-double of 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. Carmelo Anthony had the opportunity to end the game at the fourth with a three-pointer assisted by LeBron James. Carmelo has been reliable on three-pointers as he averages 39% from beyond the arc.
The panelists of KJC on ESPN give their take on the disastrous Los Angeles Lakers season
Jay Williams, an analyst on ESPN started off the conversation pointing out what other teams have started to think about the Lakers after their underwhelming season. “I think the Lakers have been done for a while. They lost to the last placed team in the entire NBA. I was talking to a couple of younger guys saying we are excited to play against the Lakers this year. That looks like fun. I don’t think I’ve ever heard somebody say playing against LeBron James, Russell Westbrook looked like fun.” He concluded his take by explaining that LeBron should have taken the last shot instead of Carmelo thereby removing him from the GOAT debate.
Based on LeBron’s history of dominance, Keyshawn and Max both discuss why LeBron should have thought differently while he had the opportunity to shoot the ball. Obviously losing against the weakest team while having the best-experienced roster should have worked the other way around, so what happened? Keyshawn came to the King’s support saying, “Last night it was a different decision. There has been other times where he’s made that right play just like he did last night, they drained it and nobody said anything. The Lakers got a lot of problems. As far as they being done, I ain’t saying they done until they done. Anything can happen.”
