“They only notice Embiid and Jokic” Fans go berserk as latest stat suggests JA Morant having a better season than Derrick Rose in MVP 2011 season

Derrick Rose and JA Morant

Ja Morant has been playing like an insane this season for the Memphis Grizzlies, his unstoppable dunks and scoring in transition have made the fans call him the replica of prime Derrick Rose. The comparison between these two stars is getting hotter day-by-day, as Morant has stepped up his play this season. It’s not just about how common they are in height and age of their prime even their NBA stats are looking similar.

At the age of 22, D Rose won the 2011 NBA MVP and became the youngest ever player to win this award in the history of the league. But Morant is not getting the same level of acknowledgment despite showing more impressive stats than the former Bulls MVP at the same age.

Rose in his MVP season averaged 25.0 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game but his scoring was not the reason for him receiving the award. NBA at that time use to award on the basis of the best player of the best team where his team’s (62-win Bulls) season record played the biggest role to secure him the MVP.

On the other side, Morant’s stats are mostly similar to Rose’s as he is averaging 26.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game this season but he doesn’t seem to be in any conversation of MVP due to the tough competition from the star players of the different teams.

In an interview with Krysten Peek of Yahoo Sports, Morant talked about his comparison with D-Rose. He said, “I definitely see the comparisons, but D-Rose is one of a kind and one special player and you can see the similarities, sure, but there can never be another Derrick Rose, I’m just trying to be my own player and do what I do on the floor and help my teams win basketball games and continue to get better.”

The Sixers Center Joel Embiid, the Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, the Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the Warriors guard Stephen Curry are all ahead of him in the MVP conversation and leading the MVP ladder.

Moreover, the NBA has changed its rules to select the MVP of the season throughout the years and now it doesn’t solely depend on the team’s record but also the impression of the player in the league. However, the fans on the NBA Twitter have some different opinions after the new stats released by the NBA on ESPN.

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the latest comparison between prime D Rose and JA Morant
