“This LeBron James led Lakers team has not figured it out just like Kobe Bryant’s 2012-13 team”: JJ Redick draws comparisons between the two underperformed Lakers’ squads in history
JJ Redick compares the Lakers led by LeBron James and Kobe Bryant
The 2021-22 Los Angeles Lakers team is led by LeBron James the most successful NBA star which is also filled with the best basketball players of the last decade who are also considered future NBA Hall-of-Famers like Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Anthony Davis, and LBJ himself which makes this roaster the strongest in the current season, despite having such a well-built team the Lakers still struggled.
When the Lakers entered the season, they were burdened by the high expectation of fans that they will go for the championship this season, but things have changed drastically bad for the LA-based franchise as they are even struggling to get a spot in the play-in tournament of this season.
When we talk about a team full of star players and yet failing to deliver the performance it gives a recap that the Lakers have faced this before when they were led by Kobe Bryant in the 2012-13 NBA season.

JJ Redick compares the current LA Lakers to 2012-2013 big three with Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Dwight Howard
Back in the 2012-13 season, the same hype was seen for the Lakers which we saw in this season because at that time the LA-based franchise stunned the entire NBA universe when they signed two-times MVP Steve Nash and three-times DPOY Dwight Howard in the offseason.
The Lakers roaster looked fabulous with Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, Metta World Peace but despite being such a powerful team, they were still not able to set a benchmark and remained underperformed where the season for them ended when they were in the 7th seed and lost to SA spurs in the first round of the playoffs.
Former NBA star JJ Redick has also noticed this similarity between the current Lakers team and the 2012-13 Kobe Bryant-led LAL which he even discussed on the latest episode of ESPN’s First Take where he shared his honest opinion while comparing them.
JJ Redick said, “There are some comparisons between that Lakers team in 2012-2013 and this year’s Lakers team. That was the Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Kobe Lakers team that never figured it out. And this team, again, has never figured it out. Some of that, of course, is [because] LeBron’s had some injuries, AD has some injuries, but both of these teams have just completely underperformed relative to expectations.”

The Current Lakers season is expected to be wind up soon after the regular season ends as they have already slipped to the 11th spot in the western conference after their recent loss against the Dallas Mavericks. Meanwhile, looking at their upcoming game which is against the top-seeded team it seems impossible for them to even qualify for the play-in tournament
