On being listed as doubtful, it is obvious that the NBA All-Star forward has been seeing progress in his injury. Anthony Davis had started practicing in the gym awaiting a possible return very soon just in time for the play-ins. However, LeBron James will be resting the next game after experiencing swelling in his ankle after the Pelicans game. James recorded 39 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists shooting 51.8% from the field.

Head Coach Frank Vogel shed light on Davis’ availability saying, “We’re at a point now where it’s really about how he responds to that and the level of soreness he has coming out of his first live work.” With regards to LeBron, Vogel said, “It’s been that type of year. It’s one of those things that’s out of our control. It’s unfortunate. But we have to lock in, and again like we’ve done all season, we have to shift our identity on the floor with regards to who’s in and who’s out.”

The Lakers have been down low this season barely coming by winning levels. On hearing about Davis’ potential return, analyst Kendrick Perkins had a few words to say on ESPN. “I don’t like it. I don’t like it. Practicing for what? Like what are you coming back for? Listen, the Lakers don’t have the role players, they don’t have enough. Just re-evaluate the young guys who you’re going to bring back next season and call it a year.”

The Lakers roster consists of players from two different extremely on the scale of experience. On one hand, you have LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwight Howard who are veteran players. Davis has been 23.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists shooting 53.7% from the field which is much more than what any role player contributes to the board. Based on Perkins’ comment, he advises them to get players who contribute much more than just 5-10 points per game on an unpredictable roster.
